Player vs Player Combat: My Top 10 Favorite Games
In today's video I discuss player vs player combat systems in games, including a list of my favorite games that include these systems.
ambassadors: Andromeda's Edge, Arcs, Black Rose Wars, Cookie Run TCG (use cards as HP), Dice Throne, Dune Imperium, Ironwood, Magic, Mistborn, Radlands, Robot Quest Arena, Root, Scythe, Star Wars Unlimited, The Witcher Old World, Thunder Road: Vendetta, Undaunted, Wonderland's War
Digital Gamer - Kaitlyn: Zenith: Not sure if this one counts because I don't play combat games, but ... I had never played a game with the tug-of-war mechanism before finding Zenith, and now I wish more games had this! I know it's probably not exactly "combat", but it's player v player and semi-aggressive (similar to combat).
Heavy Gamer - Dillon: Andromeda's Edge. If combat is going to be present in a game, I, personally, prefer losses to not feel devastating. In Andromeda's Edge, there's a sort of consolation prize when you lose a combat, and you can repair or recall units; they're not destroyed. In some cases, it could even help you to lose a unit on the board, as it may let you go back to that space sooner than you otherwise could. And while I was actually okay with the dice system of Dwellings of Eldervale, Andromeda's Edge improves upon it by mitigating the dice rolls in a really elegant way in that having more ships not only gives you more dice, but also more consistency, while still leaving the possibility of underdog victories.
Family Gamer - Skiler: Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game- This is a streamlined deck-building game where you try to eliminate your opponents' bases. It includes combat that is driven by a shared "Galaxy Row" where players attack opponents' cards so they can't add them to their deck, which often gives you a reward! I also like the tug-of-war "Force Track", as controlling it unlocks cool card abilities and bonuses. This game is a great place to start for families venturing into deck-building and combat games. It is very rewarding, and the theme shines! (Recommended for ages 10+)
Honorable mentions: Kemet, Arcs, The King Is Dead, Dead Reckoning, Unmatched, Wonderland's War, Adrenaline, Blood Rage, Gudnak
